Please pray for the family and friends of Steven Miyake as he passed away last night at his home on Maui after returning from Oahu yesterday. It is with a heavy heart that I share this update, Steven was a good friend, an encourager, a bridge builder, a connector, and had a similar heart for ministry. There are no words at a time like this, but an abiding trust in the LORD and His plans. (Please read his brother Kris’s announcement below the photo and PRAY.)
Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.
-Romans 12:15
It is with a broken heart, shaking hands, and the peace of God that I write this, but last night, my brother, Steven Miyake passed away. He went to bed for the first time in 3 months at home, on Maui, and woke up an hour later healed of cancer in the arms of the Lord. He was my best friend, my confidant, my support, and my right hand. He was the most loyal and faithful friend anyone of us will ever know, and his love for his friends and the people he knew was only surpassed by his love for Jesus Christ.
There are no words for moments like this, and our family is relying on Jesus more than ever as we cope with this moment; however, we are not broken, disillusioned, or defeated. Steven IS healed, eternally, forever. Because of Christ, we know that this is not a goodbye forever, for we will see him again, healed and forever joyful in the presence of God, and THAT hope sustains us in a time of indescribable loss.
We know that you all loved Steven like we loved him, and because of that, we know how strongly you will feel about how this journey should or shouldn’t end. I respect that, but right now, all my family needs is your love and support – that means everything to us. Please give Stacey, myself, and my parents the space we need to process this properly and to make the arrangements we need, and please do not be offended if we do not return any messages or phone calls right now. We so appreciate each and every one of you who have supported Steven throughout this entire process, and your love and aloha from all corners of the globe has been overwhelming and helped him fight this long.
We love all of you, and we will let you know as soon as possible when and where his Celebration of Life will be. If you need comfort today, find it in Christ, for as Steven’s favorite worship song, The Anthem by Planetshakers, says, Hallelujah, He has won the victory; death could not hold Him down, for He is the risen King, seated in majesty.
I love you Steven… With all my heart. A hui hou (Until we meet again).
“So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O Death, where is your sting?
O Grave, where is your victory?”
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” -1 Corinthians 15:54-57
Such a sad time, but also a praise that he is definitely home in heaven and those of us who never had the privilege of meeting him in person will meet him there where there is no pain. Blessings to each of you as you take care of so many things. Blanche Strickland
