This sweet baby girl is our dear friends’ daughter. She was born last April with a hole in her heart and will need surgery to help repair it. This family is part of our Maui ohana and we love them so much. This morning I had the opportunity to meet up with April, Alana’s mom, for some time together before they leave the island for surgery.

This week the family of four (Nick, April, Alec & Alana) will fly to Oahu for Alana’s surgery. Often times people fly to Oahu or even the mainland to receive medical care, as Maui and the smaller islands do not offer as many options when it comes to surgery and specialized needs.

You may recognize fellow Maui Mama, Shauna Dukes, whom we’ve been praying along with for her toddler son Trucker this past year. She and April ran into each other at just the right moment this past week, lifting our friend’s spirits:

It was a sweet surprise and so awesome see this Super Mom Shauna Dukes and her son, Trucker. When I was at my lowest of lows yesterday, in total anxious preparation of Alana’s open heart surgery Monday morning – seeing this family that has inspired me so much was truly what I needed. As Trucker fights a rare cancer, their lives have been turned upside down in less than a year, and yet he is so happy frolicking the beach, reminds me everything is going to be ALRIGHT. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, Love to you all Dukes Ohana keep #punchingcancerintheface –April

So, please remember this precious family in your prayers, especially on Sunday and Monday for pre-op and surgery; as well as recovery and healing on this journey. (I’ll add a family pic asap, as well).

Thank you for praying for the people of Hawaii and the islands themselves!

Mahalo,
Jennifer Poppy
