Day 20 Prayer

Our prayer today is for reconciliation between the diverse people of Hawaii and an end to discrimination.  As we already discussed on the prayer blog, there is a lot of hurt from the past between the different races and cultures in Hawaii.  A lot of this hurt is revealed through discrimination towards the ha’ole (foreigners), and it is not helped by how some ha’ole act while they are visiting the islands.  Many people are unaware of the past problems associated with the overthrow of the monarchy, the establishment of the territory of Hawaii, or the nearly slave-like conditions of cheap labor on the plantations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Jesus, as You have given us the ministry of reconciliation, we ask You for the strategies and actions to take to bring reconciliation between the people of Hawaii. For the ha’ole who took over the land and over threw the monarchy, we repent for the wrongs committed in the name of commerce.  Also, for the poor treatment of early migrant laborers, we ask you to bind the wounds of those who are still hurting.  Help us all to nail our hurts and grievances to the cross of Christ because there you paid the price for all the wrongs we committed.

Jesus, allow the body of Christ on the islands to lead the way for reconciliation and unity.  Your plan is to bring abundant life, and we ask that the body of Christ will be a conduit for those blessings.  For the spirits that seek to oppress people through hatred and bitterness, we bind them up in Your name and ask You to break their influence and let Your peace reign in our hearts. Let us as You said, “regard no one from a worldly point of view.”

In Jesus Name, AMEN!
