Day 18 Prayer

Today, we will be praying for those suffering from addictions to drugs, alcohol, pornography, etc. Like many states on the mainland, there are many people have addictions in Hawaii. While some of the reasons for their addictions are similar, some unique characteristics of Hawaii compound the severity and frequency of these problems.  One such factor is homelessness; because of Hawaii’s temperate climate, many mainland homeless people seek refuge here from some of the harsher mainland climates. Another factor impact the frequency of drug and alcohol abuse is the despair of many who are born on the islands.  For visitors, Hawaii represents an oasis and a retreat, but for some locals, it is a desert with little opportunity and almost no rest.

Jesus, we ask You to break power of addiction over the islands of Hawaii.  We know all that You set free are free indeed.  Jesus, let those suffering with addiction find satisfaction in you and to realize that the substances or objects that they use to fill the hole in their hearts will not satisfy their deepest longing. Let them understand the damage that the are causing their bodies, and bring them to a place of brokeness so that they may find freedom in You. Father, in Jesus name, we ask You to cut-off the roots of bitterness, jealousy, and anger that is behind some of these addictions

We thank for those who serve as provide services to those who are addicted to drugs and alcohol.  Father God, provide them with the funds necessary to continue their work and give them encouragement as they go about their work. For pastors and lay leadership, give them a heart of compassion to those who are hurting and abuse drugs.  Let churches be places of refuge, instead of places of judgment, for these broken and hurting people.

In Jesus Name, AMEN!
