This week has been one of great tragedy and shock amongst the citizens of our nation. First, in Boston, with the marathon bombing, then in West, Texas, with the fertilizer plant explosion. People are in pain…people are in need.

I was reminded of a great truth while reading Eugene Peterson’s “Praying with Jesus” this afternoon:
April 18
“A Cup of Cold Water” (Matthew 10:40-42)
“…and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple–truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.” Matthew 10:42
Our acceptance of others and our service to others does not have to agonize over who is worthy, over what takes priority: Christ is present in everyone, everywhere. Our acts of trust and compassion, of witness and help, are anticipated by His, and fulfilled in His.
Who are some of the “little ones” in your life?
Prayer: I dream, Father, of doing great acts of service in Your name; meanwhile there are little opportunities for help all around us. Keep me faithful in the small tasks, discovering Your presence in overlooked people and in obscure places.
Amen! Isn’t that amazing April 18 was the date for that devotional? I thought it fit perfectly with all that we’re facing today. If you’d like to help some folks…give a cup of cold water, here are some ways:
For West, Texas, folks who have lost loved ones, homes, family pets, belongings, etc.
The Grand Avenue Theater in Belton, TX, currently has drop off boxes in their lobby for various items to help our neighbors to the north in West. We are working in conjunction with the Temple Chamber of Commerce to make sure all the supplies get to the folks who need them most. We will most likely be collecting until Monday or Tuesday. The items they are asking for specifically are: Water, Gatorade, Canned Food, Baby Items, Clothing, Blankets, Pet Supplies, and Toiletries.

Also, please remember the needy in Hawaii, while no disaster at this time, there are many poor who are hungry. We can help by voting now through April 22 (it takes 5 seconds) for Feed My Sheep Maui. Vote here via State Farm so the can make the Top 40 causes…$25,000 = 50,000 pounds of food for the hungry.
Blessings to you!!!
